Home Beautification Program

Now’s the time to start that project that you’ve been planning!

We all need a little incentive to start those projects that we’ve been putting off. WCNA hopes this program will entice homeowners to begin those home improvement projects they’ve been thinking about. West Central has an influx of new owners and the Neighborhood’s curb appeal is improving every year with the new renovations.

What kind of projects qualify?

Any home improvement or beautification project that improves the overall street side exterior appearance of your home. Some project ideas include:

  1. Soffit, gutter, or porch repair
  2. Exterior painting (street side)
  3. Concrete steps and walkway replacement (city sidewalks are covered under our Curbs and Sidewalks program
  4. Street side landscaping (trees are covered under our Tree Program)
Who qualifies?
Any West Central homeowner or renter can apply. Renters must provide written approval from their landlord. You must be a member of the West Central Neighborhood Association to receive funds from WCNA. Funding will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be prioritized based on the order of applications received. The property must be located inside the West Central Association boundary. Keep reading for specific rules and requirements.

Requirements:
  • You must be a member of the West Central Neighborhood Association at the time the project begins and at the time of your application.
  • Make sure you take “before” photos before the project begins.
  • You must submit an application within 90 days of the project completion or no less than 2 months before your project begins.
  • Proposals will be reviewed on a first-come basis. The proposal requires before photos and total qualified expenses.
  • If you have not yet completed your project at the time of approval, you will have 2 months to initiate the project and 6 months to complete it. If your project cannot be completed in this time frame, please email info@westcentralneighborhood.org to discuss.
  • Homeowners or landlords will pay for any labor or materials over the per-project limit.
  • Historic Codes must be followed where applicable. Contact Creager Smith, Fort Wayne Historical Preservation at 260-427-2161 to obtain a permit that states that your repair, renovation, paint, or landscaping project complies with West Central Historical Codes. Anything that changes the look of your house, color of your house, or adds permanent elements to your landscaping (like rocks and retaining walls) need approved prior to beginning. We will require proof.
  • Projects that remove historical elements of the home will not be approved, whether or not your home is located in the Local Historic District.
  • Only one property per owner per year is eligible for funds.

How much and what can be purchased?
• WCNA will pay up to $300 per household in a Split Funding Program. This is based on a 50/50 split for the first $600. Expenses in excess of the $600 are the responsibility of the homeowner or renter.
• Supplies, materials, and labor costs can be included, but must be documented in invoices/receipts.
• Funds will be reimbursed when the project is completed, receipts are submitted and the completion is verified by our beautification chair.
• Funds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and may run out at any point without warning, even if your project has been pre-approved.
