Be a Tour Stop

A Letter from the President

Each year, the West Central Home & Garden Tour Committee needs to find 10 homeowners who say “yes” to opening up their home or garden as one of the tour stops. Some years, this is an easier task, and other years, it’s much more difficult.

Please consider having your house on the tour. When you live in a historic neighborhood, your house is never “done” so you don’t need to wait until that next project is complete. It’s ready now! People love seeing houses of different sizes, shapes and states of being. Every house in West Central is worthy of being on the tour. Including yours!

We’ll go to great lengths to accommodate anything you need to participate, from pet sitting to protective barriers to creating an oasis for you and your family during open hours. If there’s a request that would help get you to “yes”, please make it. Our house captains are incredible at making everything run smoothly and taking on all the details so you don’t have to.

There’s nothing like a personal ask from a friend or neighbor, so if you know someone you think would be a good tour stop, please ask and encourage them. You can inform any of the board members listed below and we will follow up – but that personal, face-to-face ask makes a big difference.

Please remember that the Home & Garden Tour is not a guarantee. It takes hundreds of volunteer hours and participation to make it happen. We run on West Central community. It’s what makes the neighborhood special. Please help us keep this wonderful – and incredibly fun – tradition going.

Thank you!

Joel Sauer, President

Tour Stop Rules & Guidelines

Our number one goal is the historic preservation of these beautiful homes and the historic character they possess. Because of that, we have a few rules on the types of buildings we will and won’t feature during our event.

  1. Only one property per owner entity can be included as a tour stop in any given year.
  2. Properties that have improvements that did not seek or follow HPC guidelines will not be eligible for Tour stops.
  3. We generally do not accept properties that are for sale.
  4. We try not to include the same home or garden on the tour more than once every seven years. (New renovations or new homeowners may negate this rule.)

The WCNA Tour Committee and/or Board of Directors will be the final arbiter of these rules, and may reject a stop for any reason, or they may choose to break these rules if needed.
