The Connected Neighborhoods Initiative was started by Mayor Sharon Tucker to bring communities together. It encourages residents to get involved and develop creative ideas to bring valuable resources to their neighborhoods, making life better for everyone.
This initiative aims to strengthen bonds within neighborhoods by bringing residents together and helping them design and launch a project that improves the quality of life and serves as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization.
In spring of 2025, applications opened for the initiative, offering to award a $1 million grant to two neighborhood groups.
In response to this, the Northwest Central Collaborative was established. This group is comprised of five connected neighborhoods on the northwest side of downtown Fort Wayne:
- Bloomingdale
- Hamilton
- Nebraska
- North Highlands
- West Central
Mayor Sharon Tucker announced in June of 2025 that the Northwest Central Collaborative would be one of two groups awarded the $1 million grant.
