PLANNING COMMITTEE

1000 Block Broadway discussion
o Also,
discussed passing motion & vote at January Board meeting requesting
notification to City to not pursue demolition.

Association made and passed
a motion to have Cindy Joyner, from Neighborhood Code, come to February’s
Association Meeting to speak to Association members.
FUND RAISING COMMITTEE
OLD BUSINESS

Thieme Drive –
o Bob
Kennedy responded, US Army Corp of Engineers and permits in placed to start
work; looking for contractor bids.
o
Project north of initial project in discussion

Section 42 – On hold for 2 – 3

Concern Citizen Watch (CCW) – Thanks to WCNA residences; police have identified a
person suspected of discarding used tires in West Central and surrounding
neighborhoods.

GE Lighted Sign
o
Mike Anderson submitted letter in appreciation of new lighting which was
in the 12/29/09 News-Sentinel Cheers section and also sent letter to GE’s
general manager.
o
Joann Bruce submitted letter which appeared in 12/5/09 Journal Gazette.

NEW BUSINESS
o
Joann Bruce brought in a ‘Get Well Card’ for members to sign for Maxine
Patterson, WCNA resident who was recently hospitalized.

Association made and passed motion to also send
flowers to Maxine out of general fund.

Superior Street Water Dikes
§
Multiple episodes of clay clogged drains (ongoing issue for area)
§
US Army Corp of Engineer funding has been secured for permanent dikes.

Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA)
o
Henry’s Restaurant – Building a deck on west side of building; legal counsel
for owner asking if WCNA want to show support; need to submit comments by
January 26.
§
Association made and passed motion to write letter of
support and request for excellence in appearance and compatibility in adherence
with historic design and build.
o
802 & 804 W. Washington – owner requesting variance to reduce
parking from required 6 spaces to 4 spaces.
Owner has not requested WCNA support.

Downtown Design Standards Process
o
Scott Greider indicated WCNA may want to take an active review of the
upcoming proposals. Drafts of design
standards are scheduled to be ready for review in 3 weeks; public will have 4
weeks to review before it goes to City Council.
·
DIDD “Best Event of 2009” Award
o
Arts Fest which was part of WCNA’s 2009 House & Garden Tour won award.
o
Arts Fest was expanded in 2009 to a 2-day fun filled block party
featuring a full roster of local musicians, dance groups and artists.
o
Ben Porter, Steve Moranda and David Long accepted award.
